For more than 30 years, Star Jewelers has been a full-service, family-owned jewelry store serving the Columbus community. In 2014, we relocated from Bexley to the vibrant Short North Arts District.
Our story is unique. It started with a high-stakes game of poker in Bolivia. With the winning hand, Dennis’s cousin, Tom, won the deed to an emerald mine. Unsure of what he had, he handed Dennis a bag of emeralds and said, “See what you can do!” From there, Dennis was inspired to enroll at the Gemological Institute of America and earn his Graduate Gemologist degree.
While he had envisioned a life as the “Indiana Jones” of gemstones, Dennis ended up moving home to Columbus and his girlfriend, Elaine. He accepted a job at Lazarus, running the fine jewelry counter.
Elaine and Dennis were married in 1986, and two children followed soon after. They decided that between Elaine’s 17 years of experience merchandising for The Limited and Dennis’s gemological knowledge, together they would make the perfect team to open and run a jewelry store in Bexley.
More than 30 years later, the family business decided it was time for a change. Being a part of the Bexley community had allowed them to develop wonderful friendships and deep roots. But Dennis and Elaine, now joined by their daughter Rachel, were ready to expand into a bigger space with a more central location so they could better serve all their clients.
During our transition from being a local jeweler to a city jeweler, our goal was to never lose that local feel and charm from where we started years ago. We value where we came from and treasure our very first customers.
Thank you for following along in our journey. The next time you are in the area, we hope you stop in and visit us once again.
