Saturday, November 30th is Small Business Saturday- a day where small businesses team up with American Express to promote shopping at locally owned stores. Obviously, we’re advocates of shopping local when possible all year round. Small businesses help enrich the personality of a community and provide shoppers with unique options, personalized attention and superior customer service.
Small Business Saturday is a celebration of the differences between national, big box chain stores and the local businesses that provide you with different options and add to the identity of your neighborhood. It’s also a reminder of what local businesses give back. According to the Andersonville Study of Retail Economics, local business generates 70 percent more local economic activity per square foot than big box retail stores. That money is reinvested into the community and supports local schools, taxes, jobs and wages. Not only does it help the local economy, but shopping locally has a positive environmental impact as well. It cuts down on pollution from production, transportation fuel, and packaging waste.
Seeing is believing. Below, check out an infographic from CustomMade, an online marketplace for custom goods, detailing the many benefits of shopping local.
There’s one thing this infographic doesn’t cover, however- that is the many one-of-a-kind options we can provide to you at Star Jewelers, whether it’s a special treat for yourself or a meaningful gift that can’t be found anywhere else. This Small Business Saturday, when you spend $300 with us, you will get $50 back to spend in December and January. So don’t forget to join us and the other local shops this Saturday and show appreciation for the businesses that make Bexley special!
